Bilingual medical education for Ukraine — and the world. Because no clinician should face the frontlines alone.
We have the patients… and the motivation… but we don't always have the training or support.— Young doctor, rural Ukraine
Out of relationships formed through mobile clinics, teaching visits, and humanitarian work in Ukraine has grown MedLearnUke.org — a bilingual medical education platform developed by the volunteer-run Australian charity Only Passing Thru in partnership with the Christian Medical Association of Ukraine.
Led by rural generalist and medical educator Dr Lara Wieland — whose career spans decades of work in remote Indigenous communities in Australia and repeated medical missions in Ukraine — the project is grounded in a simple belief: no doctor should feel professionally isolated because of geography, conflict, language, or limited resources.
The platform combines practical family medicine teaching, specialty hubs, webinars, case discussions, and asynchronous mentoring — fully bilingual in English and Ukrainian.
The war hasn't just destroyed buildings — it has fractured the entire medical education infrastructure that Ukraine's health workers depend on.
2,000+ damaged or destroyed across Ukraine — hospitals, clinics, training centres.
Millions relocated internally and internationally, severing professional networks.
Universities damaged, residency programs interrupted, mentors out of reach.
Clinicians cut off from peers and CPD — while patients still need care every day.
MedLearnUke.org is powered by Moodle — mobile-friendly and low-bandwidth compatible — built for real conditions in wartime Ukraine.
Case-based curriculum mapped to international standards. Fully bilingual English ⇆ Ukrainian throughout.
Cardiology, paediatrics, emergency medicine, military health, mental health and more — contributed by global specialists.
Monthly sessions with international experts. Archived with EN⇆UA dubbing so nothing is ever lost.
DeepL + ElevenLabs: instant bilingual text, video captions, and audio. AI voice cloning preserves the educator's own tone.
Global Q&A threads, specialty discussions, case sharing. You are never professionally alone.
Portable, credentialled certificates on completion — supporting Ukraine's doctors wherever they practise.
One toggle. Everything changes.
Not subtitles. Not a generic voice-over. AI voice cloning means Ukrainian clinicians hear the educator's own voice — in Ukrainian. Learning stays personal and human.
International supporter subscriptions directly subsidise free access for Ukrainian clinicians — a simple act of global solidarity.
Whether you can give an hour or an ongoing commitment, your expertise will directly reach clinicians working under extraordinary conditions.
No long-term commitment required. One contribution can reach hundreds of clinicians across Ukraine — in their own language.
