Ukraine’s War for Survival: A Global Crossroads
As 2025 unfolds, Ukraine remains locked in a battle not just for its own sovereignty, but for democracy, truth, and human dignity. Nearly three years since Russia’s full-scale invasion, the war has intensified, with relentless attacks on civilians and escalating horrors in occupied territories.
Yet, at a time when Ukraine needs unwavering international support, troubling signs are emerging. Former U.S. President Donald Trump has increasingly pressured Ukraine to capitulate, pushed for a settlement that would legitimise Russian occupation, and publicly sided with Putin over U.S. intelligence agencies. His rhetoric and policies, echoed by his allies, threaten to undermine Ukraine’s ability to fight—and in doing so, they embolden not just Russia, but other authoritarian regimes watching closely.
Make no mistake: what’s at stake here is not just Ukraine’s land. This is a war of truth against disinformation, of democracy against dictatorship, of justice against genocide. The outcome will shape the world for generations.
Trump’s Dangerous Rhetoric: Capitulation to Tyranny?
Since launching his 2024 campaign, Trump has repeatedly cast doubt on continued U.S. military aid to Ukraine, signalling that he would abandon Ukrainian resistance and push for a “peace deal” on Putin’s terms. He has mocked NATO allies for backing Ukraine, suggested cutting support entirely, and even hinted that he would let Russia “do whatever they want” to Ukraine and other European nations if they don’t “pay up” to the U.S.
Worse still, Trump has openly sided with Putin’s false narratives—questioning Ukraine’s right to exist, downplaying Russian war crimes, and amplifying Kremlin disinformation. His rhetoric directly contradicts U.S. intelligence, global human rights watchdogs, and firsthand witness accounts. His policies have included:
✅ Freeze or cut U.S. military aid, leaving Ukraine dangerously exposed.
✅Cut off satellite access and intelligence support leaving Ukrainian civilians at the mercy of Russian missiles
✅ Pressure Ukraine to surrender territory, effectively rewarding Russian aggression.
✅ Undermine NATO solidarity, emboldening Russia to threaten other nations.
✅ Strengthen Putin’s global influence, legitimising his imperial ambitions.
Trump has a documented history of appeasing Putin, from refusing to hold Russia accountable for election interference to attempting to extort Ukraine for political gain. His return to power has been catastrophic—not just for Ukraine, but for the entire democratic world.
Russia’s True War: Genocide, Torture, and Religious Persecution
This is not just a conventional war—it is a war of extermination. Putin’s actions in Ukraine go beyond military conquest; they are a calculated attempt to erase Ukrainian identity through genocide, ethnic cleansing, and psychological terror. The evidence is overwhelming:
📍 Mass Executions – Russian forces have carried out mass killings of civilians in towns like Bucha, Irpin, and Mariupol. Thousands have been executed, burned, or dumped in mass graves.
📍 Rape as a Weapon of War – Investigations by human rights groups have documented systematic sexual violence, including rape of women, children, and even elderly victims. These are not isolated incidents but a deliberate tool of war.
📍 Abduction and Russification of Children – Over 20,000 Ukrainian children have been forcibly deported to Russia, placed in re-education camps, and given new Russian identities. This is a direct violation of international law—a modern-day kidnapping operation on a massive scale.
📍 Religious Persecution – Putin has positioned himself as a so-called “defender of Christian values” while systematically targeting religious leaders, burning churches, and banning Ukrainian Orthodox and Protestant denominations. Priests and pastors have been arrested, tortured, and even executed for refusing to pledge allegiance to Russia.
📍 Torture Chambers and Filtration Camps – Survivors from occupied territories describe brutal torture, including electrocution, waterboarding, and forced confessions under duress. Filtration camps—reminiscent of Nazi concentration camps—have been used to screen, deport, or eliminate Ukrainians seen as threats.
These are war crimes on an industrial scale. To abandon Ukraine now would not just be a military failure—it would be a moral failure of historic proportions.
A War Against Lies: The Power of Disinformation
Russia’s military invasion is only one front in this war. The other, equally dangerous front, is the war on truth which I have covered before. The Kremlin has weaponised propaganda, social media manipulation, and fake news to sow confusion, divide democracies, and justify its atrocities.
Russian disinformation tactics include:
🛑 Blaming Ukraine for Russia’s attacks (e.g., falsely claiming that Ukraine bombed its own cities).
🛑 Spreading conspiracy theories (e.g., portraying Ukraine as a “Nazi state” despite its Jewish president).
🛑 Using Western influencers to parrot Kremlin narratives, including politicians, journalists, and social media figures and now also using AI to spread their message!
🛑 Denying war crimes, despite overwhelming evidence from satellite imagery, survivors, and international investigators.
Disinformation is one of Russia’s most powerful weapons—but it only works if people believe it. The best defence is truth. By sharing verified sources, exposing Russian lies, and refusing to accept propaganda at face value, we can stand against the erosion of reality itself.
Why Supporting Ukraine Is a Stand for Humanity
This war is not just about borders or geopolitics—it is about the very soul of the world we want to live in.
🛑 If Ukraine falls, it tells dictators everywhere that genocide works.
🛑 If Ukraine is abandoned, it tells oppressors that justice is optional.
🛑 If Ukraine loses, it tells the world that truth no longer matters.
But if Ukraine wins, it sends a powerful message:
✅ That no nation can erase another with violence.
✅ That democracy and human rights are worth defending.
✅ That the world will not be ruled by fear and lies.
This is why standing with Ukraine is not just a political stance—it is a moral imperative. Every weapon, every humanitarian donation, every protest against Russian aggression is a step toward ensuring that evil does not triumph.
What Can You Do?
Here’s how we can all help:
✔ Contact your leaders – Demand continued military and humanitarian aid for Ukraine and strong actions against funding of Russia’s war machine e.g. sanctions.
✔ Expose disinformation – Call out propaganda and share factual sources.
✔ Donate to trusted organisations – On the ground charities like our partners providing lifesaving aid.
✔ Support Ukrainian voices – Follow and amplify Ukrainian journalists and activists.
This war will define our generation. Will we stand for truth, or let lies prevail? Will we defend freedom, or let dictators decide the fate of nations? History is watching—and so are the victims of this war.
Now is not the time for retreat. Now is the time for resolve.
