Right now, as you read this, we’re somewhere in transit. Bags packed (over-packed, if we’re honest), documents checked three times, and the long haul to Ukraine underway. It takes three to four days to get there — planes, trains, border crossings and whatever else the road throws at us.
This time, we’re not popping over for a few weeks. We’re going for five months.
Five months of mobile clinics. Five months of training and support, sharing skills. Five months building out and sharing our online medical education platform, so this knowledge doesn’t leave when we do. Five months alongside the partners who never get to leave — the Christian Medical Association of Ukraine, the church communities, the grassroots NGO’s, the everyday heroes who keep showing up long after the news cameras have gone home.
It’s a lot. It’s also, frankly, the whole point.
Why We’re Doing This
Statistics don’t keep anyone warm. What keeps people going is knowing someone still cares enough to show up. That’s what this deployment is — not a gesture, not a headline, but five months of actual presence.
How You Can Help
Here’s the part we always want to say plainly, because it matters: every dollar you give goes to the work, not to us. Our flights, our food, our five months away from home — that’s on us, not on you. Your support fuels generators, buys supplies, keeps the education platform running, keeps mobile clinics going, supports the humanitarian aid warehouse and gets medical training where it’s desperately needed and more. Nothing more glamorous than that, and nothing less important either.
If you’d like to see exactly what collective support can achieve, take a look at our 200 Heroes for Ukraine page — it lays out, heroes-and-all, what 200 people standing together can actually do on the ground.
Stand With Us
We’re heading over there so that when a Ukrainian medic asks “does anyone even remember us?” — we can say yes. Australia remembers. Australia cares. And we’re catching a very long series of flights and road transport to prove it in person.
If you can, donate at passingthrough.net/donating, even better sign up to stand with us and with Ukraine – even the cost of a coffee a week makes a huge difference. 200 Heroes for Ukraine If you can’t right now, share this post, or just keep Ukraine in your thoughts and prayers today. Every form of standing with them counts.
Sign up to follow our blog and be with us on the journey.
We’ll check in properly once we’ve landed — assuming we can still feel our legs after four days of transit.
