Ukraine: Three Years of War and a Fight for Survival
Today marks the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine—a brutal and unprovoked attack that continues to inflict unimaginable suffering on the Ukrainian people. It is not just the physical devastation of relentless bombings and military aggression but also the psychological torment Ukrainians face daily. The uncertainty over continued support from their allies is a burden that adds to their struggle, as they grapple with the horrifying reality of what might happen if left at the mercy of an enemy that has shown a willingness to commit mass murder, torture, and rape.
Now more than ever, Ukraine needs unwavering support. The world must stand firm against tyranny and genocide. If you can, donate to organisations such as ours, providing aid and assistance, and pray for Ukraine. The fight for freedom is not just theirs—it is ours too.
News Bites: Ukraine’s Ongoing Struggle
Fact-Checking Misinformation
Recent speeches by the former US President were filled with blatant falsehoods—many of which mirror Russian propaganda. Here are the facts:
- Claim: Zelensky has a 4% approval rating.
Fact: While his approval ratings have declined from 77% they remain far higher than Trump’s. After US President Donald Trump falsely claimed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s approval rating stands at a mere 4%, experts including Professor Olga Onuch of The University of Manchester have pointed to their polling which puts his approval rating at 63% – making him the most popular politician in the country. - Claim: The US has provided twice as much aid to Ukraine as Europe.
Fact: Europe has actually given more aid than the US. - Claim: Zelensky doesn’t know where half of the donations have gone.
Fact: A significant portion of the aid has been used by donor nations to replenish their own stocks. Direct aid to Ukraine from the US stands at around $100 billion. Zelenskyy was making the point that a lot of the aid they’ve been told they’ve received was never sent. - Claim: Ukraine started the war.
Fact: Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014 and escalated to a full-scale war in 2022. - Claim: The US has provided $350 billion in aid to Ukraine.
Fact: The US State Department reports that military aid to Ukraine since 2022 is approximately $65.9 billion.
The spread of misinformation only serves Russia’s interests. The truth must prevail.

The US-Ukraine Minerals Deal: A Controversial Bargain
The US is pushing Ukraine to sign a minerals deal granting American companies 50% of Ukraine’s revenue from rare earth elements, oil, and gas—indefinitely. Ukrainian President Zelensky has resisted, citing a lack of security guarantees and the disproportionate nature of the agreement. Critics argue this deal could jeopardise Ukraine’s economic sovereignty, with Ukraine being asked to hand over vast resources into perpetuity while receiving vague (or even NO) promises in return.

Russia’s onslaught continues without pause:
- Over 1,250 bombs and 750 drones were fired at Ukraine in just one week in January.
- On February 23, Russia launched 267 drones in one day—its highest attack count yet.
- Civilian homes, hospitals, and energy infrastructure are among the primary targets.

Looting on an Unprecedented Scale
Russia has looted over 33,000 artifacts from Ukrainian museums in Kherson alone—marking the largest cultural theft in Europe since Hitler’s looting in World War II. High-ranking Russian officers and Crimean museum officials orchestrated the theft, with stolen treasures now reportedly in occupied Crimea.
Ukraine’s Population Crisis
In 2024, Ukraine registered 495,090 deaths—almost three times the number of births. These figures do not include the occupied territories, meaning the true toll could be even worse. The war is not only destroying infrastructure but also devastating Ukraine’s demographic future.
Russia’s New Propaganda: A Soviet-Style History Rewrite
Echoing the tactics of Stalin and Hitler, Russia has introduced a three-volume textbook for children, rewriting history to justify its invasion of Ukraine. These books are part of a broader disinformation campaign aimed at brainwashing the next generation into supporting Russia’s war crimes.
Suspension of US Aid Hits Ukraine—and Beyond
The US foreign aid freeze has had dire consequences:
- Veteran rehabilitation programs in Ukraine have been suspended.
- Education projects have been halted in frontline villages.
- HIV and tuberculosis treatments are now at risk, leaving thousands of vulnerable patients without care.
This pause in aid funding isn’t just affecting Ukraine but millions of people worldwide, particularly in impoverished communities that rely on US humanitarian programs.
Chemical Weapons: Russia’s Unchecked War Crimes
Russia has used chemical weapons against Ukrainian forces 5,389 times since 2023. In December alone, there were 434 recorded cases, with over 2,000 Ukrainian soldiers hospitalised due to exposure.
A Lesson in History
One particularly profound quote about this war resonates deeply with me:
“If the people and politicians involved in this conflict knew their history, the aid and arms would be flowing uninterrupted to Ukraine.”
History has repeatedly shown that appeasing dictators leads only to greater suffering. Will we learn, or will we repeat past mistakes?
Ukraine’s Fight is the World’s Fight
The battle for Ukraine is a battle for democracy, human rights, and the fundamental principles of international law – and for Ukrainians it is for their very survival… The world cannot afford to waver. The Ukrainian people have shown unbreakable resilience, but they need more than words—they need action.
💙💛 DONATE if you can. Spread the truth. Ask your government to support. Pray for Ukraine. Stand with Ukraine. 💙💛
